BIRD HOUSE WITH ALL RECYCLED MATERIALS

This week I decided to make my neighbors 40 th birthday present. I thought it was so cute, I almost kept it for myself.

She and her family love to camp .They have a beautiful pull behind camper trailer thingy....{ no I'm not an outdoorsy girl}. I camp at the Sheraton.

Any way my husband took the camera with him for 3 days, so I don't have every step of the construction, but here is what I got.

I started out with a bunch of reclaimed lumber from another neighbors deck ,that I drug home. Hubby is calling me "Sanford and Son". Whatever.....Wait til he sees the old pallet from the dump ,that I shoved in the back of the Buick ! LOL.
I broke the perch off of this ,and made the window.

This was made into the awning above the window.

This is a reclaimed post before re-staining.

 Post Brackets before stain.

Can I just tell you how much I LOVE Cabot stain!!!

Picture of the base, The trailer, and the painted awning/ bird feeding dish.

I cut pieces off of these to make the tree, door, steps, and trailer hitch, as well as the trim for the base.
After putting it all together on the back deck, I realized I couldn't lift it, and with my hubby out of town,  wasn't sure what to do, sooooo........I sweet talked another neighbor to haul it over there or me. "Great", I thought ...now I just have to take the bow and card !

The Birthday girl's husband set the post in the ground before guests arrived for the big surprise party. She LOVED it , and here is the finished Home Tweet Home for some new birdie family........... after the varnish smell dissipates anyway.!
Check out the fire pit !

I added a solar light behind the tree, so birdie friends could find their way home.

The tires are covers from my spice jars!

GREEN DISHWASHER DETERGENT

GREEN DISH WASHING DETERGENT

IMG_1717
Homemade Liquid Detergent Recipe
1 1/2 cups water
1/2 cup distilled white vinegar
1/4 cup liquid castile soap
2 tablespoons pure lemon juice (not concentrate)
2 tablespoons salt
1 tablespoon washing soda
**10-15 drops antibacterial essential oil, if using an unscented castile
extra white vinegar for the rinse cycle
In a small saucepan, combine water and vinegar over medium heat. Bring to just boiling and then reduce to low heat. Add each additional ingredient, one at a time, whisking as you go. Make sure everything is dissolved before removing from heat.
Allow to cool and then transfer to a storage container. When completely cooled the solution will separate into two layers, so shake it up real good before use.
IMG_1736
I use 2-3 tablespoons per load. I also fill the machine’s rinse indicator with white vinegar – a very important step. Don’t skip this part! It will keep the dished ‘soap-scum-free’ and extra sparkly.

Enjoy, and happy green dishwashing!

FUN FLATWARE!!

I love this idea and tutorial that Creatively Christy put together.

a cute DIY project to spiff up your old silverware for spring. doesn’t everyone have a set of old silverware? i keep a set underneath the sink and it could definitely use this makeover. wouldn’t it be fun to use this for your picnics?

For one, I think the silverware looks modern and chic and I like the way the bright color makes the pattern pop. Number two, you can find inexpensive cutlery almost anywhere: Flea markets, dollar stores and garage sales. Finally, what a way to add a little zing to your tablescape and the process is easy enough and inexpensive enough that you can customize any or all events.

Aren't they Fun!!!I'm doing mine pink!

NEW DISHWASHER!!!

O.K So my kitchen is all of 9 ft x 9 ft. I always wanted a dishwasher, but I absolutely have NO room.I found this counter top model on Amazon, and mounted it under my  farmhouse sink.I LOVE it!

The Haier is a miniature automatic dishwasher that's small enough to stand on a counter or fit within a large cabinet -- it measures 22.6-by-18.9-by-17.2 inches. It can fit roughly four place settings, along with silverware, and while it's not Energy Star compliant, it uses a fraction of the amount of water you would use if you hand washed. A recent study found that to hand wash 12 place settings it takes 27 gallons of water. The Haier uses about 8.25 gallons for the same amount of dishes -- 2.75 gallons per cycle.
Like most countertop washers, the Haier connects to your kitchen sink water line. The instructions suggest that you connect the water intake hose straight to your kitchen faucet, but this means that you have to uninstall the line every time you want to use your sink. We decided to create a more permanent solution, by connecting the intake hose straight to the hot water supply under the sink.
In order to do this, first we checked if our water pipes were copper or iron (what you have determines what type of hardware to get). Once we knew they were iron, we headed to the hardware store to buy a dual-supply/dual shut-off stop valve and a 48-inch dishwasher supply line. We then shut off our main water feed to our sink, put a small bucket under our hot water valve, turned on the faucet to relieve pressure, and then removed the faucet hookup and the existing valve. Next, we applied teflon tape to the exposed pipe threads after removing the old tape and attached the dual shut-off valve. Then we attached our dishwasher line to one end of the dual valve and our sink line to the other, again applying teflon tape to any visible threads (male side only). Finally, we turned on our house water and checked for leaks.
Grey water needs to go somewhere as well, so we decided to collect it in a bucket in order to water plants outside (we use a mild Trader Joe's detergent that doesn't harm plants). We simply placed the drain hose into a five gallon bucket, and now make sure to empty it after each use.
haier-inside-sz-101110.jpg
The Haier has a removable food catch, that you must clean after every wash. The catch truly does catch everything, as I've yet to find pieces of food and debris anywhere else in the washer.
A wash cycle takes about 2 hours and is a bit loud. If you live in a studio apartment, I recommend turning it on when you're heading out for a few. I've had to take phone conversations to another room and raise the volume on the TV a few bars to hear over the whirl of the machine. The Haier can handle three types of washes, but I'll be honest, I've only used the normal wash cycle and it did well on both fragile items and heavily soiled items.

"I WANT A NEW DRUG"

Well....Today I ordered my new drug of choice. It is called the "Barbie Drug".It leaves you tan and sexually excited, and it works for both men and women. This could be very interesting! It isn' legal in the U.S. , so I had to sneak around a bit.

It's a new drug in the testing phase that may help prevent skin cancer, treat sun allergies, protect against sunburn, and stimulate weight loss. Although the FDA has not approved this “wonder drug”, Australia and Great Britain are already testing the drug for use as a means of preventing and/or treating skin cancer. The drug is also said to be able to produce a sunless tan by stimulating the melatonin in your body, which is naturally stimulated after exposure to the sun to help produce a tan.

girleffect

It was originally created by the University of Arizona and the Arizona Cancer center teams as a way to help the skin protect itself against skin cancer and as a way to help prevent sunburns or sun allergies for those with sensitive skin. Clinical trials in Arizona began in April 2007.

With the added bonus of providing spontaneous erections and increasing libido. It helps the body to produce bursts of melatonin. This increase can help a tan stay dark for months at a time, even without exposure to the sun. Harmful UV rays can cause skin cancer, especially for those who tan on a regular basis. The drug helps to prevent this over-exposure to the sun’s rays, and the drug is rumored to have other means of protecting the skin against skin cancer and sunburn. It works in cooperation with the body’s naturally occurring melanocytes, which lie in the deepest parts of the layer of skin called the epidermis (which also is most prone to skin cancer).

                                      UPDATE!!!!

IT'S HERE!!!In 5 days from China..WOW

Can't wait to be tan without hitting the sun.I will post pictures before and after. They say you have to use it for 3 weeks for the full dark tan effect.

                                  UPDATE!!!
Today I received my package of Barbie drug.Tonight will be my first injection. They say you can have some nausea in the first week loading phase, so I will take some Benedryl an hour before ,and inject before going to bed. I am going to take pictures once a week, to see if I notice the tanning effects.
               BEFORE FIRST INJECTION :MONDAY,JULY 25-2011

                                           HERE WE GO!!??
1st injection Monday July 25:
I took my injection before bed with a Benedryl. I was up most of the night, not sick ,just couldn't sleep for some reason. All day on Tuesday, I felt fatigued and had absolutely no appetite. This is a good side effect for me.

 2nd injection Tuesday, July 26:
I also took Benedryl before bedtime with this shot.I slept great, and had no side effects.Wednesday I still have no appetite, but took a multi vitamin and ate a can of soup.Today I noticed that my scar on my hand is lighter than the rest of my skin. Could I be getting a tan already, with no sun? We'll see.
 3rd injection Wednesday July 26:
I have to say I feel great, more energy, and NO appetite. I actually have NO cravings at all. This makes my food choices much better .The girls at work said I did look a bit tanner today.I noticed I don't need as much sleep also.If these are side effects. KEEP EM' COMIN'.

4th Injection Thursday July 27:
Today I noticed an increase in the libido dept. I feel a bit "Frisky" , I do. I haven't felt like that in quite a while. My energy is through the roof, and don't need near as much sleep as normal. I have to say , if it continues working this good, I could be a lifetime member. The girls at work are noticing a difference, and want to give it a go.

5th injecton Friday July 28
I still feel great today, and am craving fresh food. This is totally not me. I am a junk food girl spicy, sweet, salty...For breakfast it was a banana, and lunch was  big salad.WOW !!Lovin'it! I can't wait til my next Dr. appt . to see if I lost any weight.

Tuesday August 6, 2011 UPDATE:

O.K...I'm into my 10th injection, and I am the tannest I've ever been, everyone thinks I was on vacation. It's great, because I don't have to use hardly any makeup.

My legs have not caught up to y upper torso, so I didn't post any pictures yet.I guess it takes about 3 weeks for the tan to even out.

LEG UPDATE:
